CAREER PLANNING: TEENAGE THINKING AND BEHAVIOUR, AND THEIR IMPACT
The OECD and ICCDPP will be working together over the next six months on teenage career planning thinking and behaviour.
Research to date suggests that:
- The career planning thinking and behaviour of teenagers impacts on their adult employment success and transitions – the more engagement, the more success
- Teenagers may under-estimate or over-estimate the qualifications that they need for the job that they are aiming for
- Under-estimation suggests a lack of knowledge and understanding of the qualifications required for occupations and of the learning pathways to these
- Disadvantaged students are more likely to under-estimate the requirements
- Engagement by employers in careers education/learning programmes can have a positive outcome value on the adult employment success of teenagers. View reports and publications: https://www.educationandemployers.org/
Examples sought: programmes and activities that are effective in helping teenagers to explore and experience the world of work. Please send your examples to Jonathan.Diaz@oecd.org
