PAKISTAN: CAREER AND OCCUPATIONAL CHOICES OF WOMEN (ILO)
As part of its mission to promote social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, the ILO considers gender equality in the world of work as a key element in its vision of Decent Work for All Women and Men for social and institutional change to bring about equity and growth.
Pakistan presents a challenging culture in this regard in terms of the participation of women in education and training, and subsequent participation in the workforce. There are also challenges in terms of society’s views as to what are appropriate occupations, if at all, for women.
“Establishing a Gender Sensitive Career Counseling – CHOICES Helping Women Make Better Career– Reducing Disparities in Employment through Effective Career Counselling for Women in Pakistan” is a study carried out by the ILO project entitled Towards Gender Parity in Pakistan (TGP) as part of its knowledge-creation for its tripartite constituents in Pakistan.
These challenging issues in Pakistan viewed through the lenses of young women, men, and employers, make for instructive reading.
